OptiCost™ Modeling Services
The OptiCost™ FTTX Models used to provide this service include guidelines for selecting solutions for single-family residences (SFR) and multi-dwelling units (MDU), as well as charts for splitter location and multiple cabinet planning. They analyze a series of factors or “dynamics” that are unique to each provider, and show the costs and attributes of different optical distribution designs for each configuration, that then can be compared to help find a cost-effective solution.

OFS understands the challenges and pitfalls that face Fiber-to-the-X (FTTX) outside plant design. Design success is achieved only after careful consideration of the unique characteristics of your network. Anticipated take rates, services offered, right-of-way issues, climate and topology are some of the many issues considered by our proprietary OptiCost FTTX Models. As a world leader in the design and manufacture of optical fiber products, OFS understands which products will complement certain network architectures while balancing cost and operational friendliness. The OptiCost FTTX Models can provide graphical and numerical data that illustrate the tradeoffs associated with different design options.

Examples of OFS' suggestions adopted by customers to improve ROI include:

A distributed splitter based architecture that reduces costs vs centralized splitters, for high expected take rates and/or low subscriber densities.
An economically sized, centralized splitter cabinet determined by the OFS Cost Models, that can provide guidance in determining the appropriate cabinet size for your network.
Fusion spliced architectures that can lower total costs in most cases vs plug and play "pre-connectorized" approaches.
